Highlights from Today...
Today we continued to work through place value practice, reading and writing numbers. We discussed the importance the number zero, even though it is not worth anything it is a place holder and must be used. For example the number 8045 would not be the same number without the hundreds place holder of 0, it would be 845.
In social studies we began a new visual journal page to represent symbols of Alberta, unfortunately we ran out of time so much more work is needed to complete. So far we know the provincial tree is a lodge pole pine and the flower is the wild rose.
We took a closer look at the Alberta flag as we worked through a See, Think, Wonder. A See, Think, Wonder allows students to write and draw everything they see in a photo or by looking at an object, write down what that artifact makes them think about and ask questions to gain more information through the wonder.
This afternoon we finally logged onto the computers, we all went to google classroom to find the links for Raz kids and/or Prodigy.
Next week on Monday, we will have some changes to our lunch time and recess therefore we are working towards having a morning snack around 10:15. Often students are hungry before this so I am encouraging them to eat a big breakfast and maybe have a quick snack around 8 right before school begins. Next week our eating time will be 12:20 where as it is 11:55 right now. This will give each group the same amount of time outside and space between the groups coming in and out to help avoid passing other groups.
Other changes that will occur beginning on Monday will be a soft entry in the morning as students arrive at school. Students will be able to go into their classrooms (through their designated doors) when they arrive and teachers will be in the room. We are hoping this will alleviate some congestion and allow us to get our day started without waiting in so many lines.
