Day 18

 Highlights from Today...

For math this morning we practiced another number of the day, showing the number is a variety of ways such as expanded form, written form, base ten blocks and worked on adding.

We began our first day of guided reading, I read with two groups while the rest of the class spent 20 mins on word work (short and long i) and 20 mins on Think Tank. I will be working through all the groups this week, reading short books for now before we begin novels.

In writing, we started a paragraph of the week. Our topic is autumn, day one was a brainstorming day and tomorrow we will be choosing some of our ideas to write more explanation.

In SuperFudge, Peter's best friend Jimmy Fargo was really mad at him for moving. He said, he would never talk to Peter again. Luckily, Jimmy came around and apologized for getting so upset and realized that it was not Peter's fault. They decided to still be friends in the end and find a way stay in touch.

For social studies today, we completed our regions of Alberta map. Ask about the 6 different regions, Boreal Forest, Rocky Mountains, Foothills, Grasslands, Parkland and Canadian Shield. Tomorrow we will continue to research specific information.

I have sent home a tracking sheet for homework this week, students may require some support to add examples and tally marks to their sheet. I have added an example below to show how to fill out the form. It is okay if not all the categories are filled, they are there as a guide. Maybe choose one meal a day or to track what is going in each bin. For example, at dinner we used one metal can, two pasta boxes and put orange peels in the garbage. (one tally in metal cans, two in cardboard and one in the food)

Reminders...

  • Homework is due on Monday, October 5th
  • I will be moving the blog to Google Classroom beginning October 1
